Mystical Conquests (Retro 4X Civ, MoM, AoW, HoMM like game)

Have found a interesting up & coming 2024 retro fantasy turn-based 4X strategy indie game called Mystical Conquests that has a very classic Master of Magic like feel plus a bit of Heroes of Might & Magic thrown in too, however the author actually lists Civilization, Age of Wonders and Final Fantasy Tactics as it’s main inspirations. Naturally the game contains all the usual 4X fantasy strategy genre hallmarks of exploring a world map filled with lairs & treasures, building & developing cities, researching new technologies, fighting battles with heroes & armies of creatures, item crafting and spell casting too. The 8bit style graphics and sound give a very nice retro feeling, and the system requirements are accordingly low. If you feel curious about testing & giving the developer some feedback, there is a playable demo available on Steam.

Age of Wonders 4 Announcement Trailer

Triumph Studios have recently announced what many had hoped for, a return to their mainline Age of Wonders fantasy 4X strategy series with AoW4! For Age of Wonders fans as well as many Master of Magic fans who feel AoW has been one of the best ‘similar to MoM’ series out there this is exciting news. What’s also interesting is that it sounds like they may be using a Warlock series multi worlds via portals system too. AoW2 Shadow Magic did something similar with one dark world similar to Master of Magic, however this time it sounds like there will be many different worlds much like in the Warlock games! I’m going to need to update my Age of Wonders Section at Blake’s Sanctum ASAP as here I am still not getting around to properly playing Shadow Magic when I’ve then got AoW3, Planetfall and now AoW4 to come too lol! Once day I’ll get to them all.. one day haha!

MASSIVE Site Update

Wow.. over 18,000 visitors to Blake’s Sanctum now! And quite a bit of increased traffic to this blog as well! 🙂

I looked at a screenshot of the website that I took at the end of 2014 and saw that there had been around 14,000 visitors over the history of the site at the meaning 4,000 people had visited this site over the last 2 years which was an amazing increase, but then I found another screenshot I took towards the end of 2015 showing the counter at around 15,000 which means that 2015 was just another year for the site and it was in fact this year that things exploded with 3,000 visitors. I have no idea why considering I hadn’t worked on the site since 2014! It hasn’t been a great 2 years in real life, health troubles, a long term relationship breakdown and a few other dramas certainly slowed me down a lot. But I’m back now and have been very busy over the last 3 months working on the site again.

As posted previously I’ve recently released a brand new Star Trek Gaming page which is probably now the largest section on my site with a huge tribute list of fan projects. I then went and updated every other gaming section on the site with new game tributes, better existing game tributes, more screens, more videos, more long lost demos, and navigation upgrades. If you visit your favourite section of the site, odds are you’ll find some new stuff there! 🙂

Thank you everyone for your support, I’m now going to upgrade my youtube channel and then finally release my 2 big mod projects to the world!

Age of Wonders Section Upgrade

Following on from the HoMM upgrade I have made some updates to my Age of Wonders Section adding a preliminary page for Age of Wonders 3 with some cool videos. I’ve also created a large ‘similar games’ list much like on my HoMM page so massive Age of Wonders fans can check out a lot of other great games out there that are similar in gameplay style.

Big Site Update & Mage’s Initiation Trailer (BACKDATED NEWS – 23/03/2013)

BIG site update! Every single page now uses custom scroll bars that utilize transparent pngs & the colour theme of the page. This only works in Webkit supporting browsers like Chrome & Safari. Firefox & IE don’t support webkit however I’ve improved the IE scroll bars to better reflect the colour theme of the page like the webkit ones.

The team behind the Quest for Glory inspired fan game Mage’s Initiation have now released a playable demo of the game on their kickstarter. I’ve added the download to my page so go check it out, its really good!

Finally sorry for the delay, I’d actually said last time that I’d finished the Age of Wonders section but forgot to upload it lol! It’s here now & ready to go, I’ve used a cool jquery scrolling background script on the main page to recreate the awesome scrolling main menu screen in AoW1. Check it out, I hope you all like! 🙂

After 10 years of nothing and fans begging for a sequel, Age of Wonders 3 (a series that plays like a hybrid of Heroes of Might & Magic and Master of Magic) has been announced! Apparently it is being funded by Notch (Minecraft) & is due out later this year. To celebrate I’ve made a new Age of Wonders section showing off what a great series this is. Hope you all like! 🙂
