Tempest Rising Update (Command & Conquer and Red Alert like game)

I posted a few months ago about the awesome looking Command & Conquer and Red Alert like game from 3D Realms called Tempest Rising on the way and I’ve been eagerly following it’s updates ever since as it’s looking very cool! I figured I’d do a new post about these as there’s a free playable demo out temporarily on steam at the moment and a new trailer too! They’ve also been releasing some awesome music track teasers that are very Frank Klepacki and Red Alert inspired along with more cool screenshots and concept art that I’ll stick below too!

When I made my previous post I failed to notice the Gamescon 2022 gameplay footage that shows the awesome C&C like briefing intro and outro sequences for missions using very nice graphics that really set the mood.

New fan Colonization recreation project in development announced!

New fan project detected! While FreeCol is an excellent recreation of the Sid Meier’s Colonization experience that we highly recommend due to it’s many features, enhancements & modability there are some that still wish for a 1:1 recreation of the original Colonization and it’s classic 2D graphics that works on modern machines, allows modern viewing resolutions (like Col for Windows does), and has easy modability. One of the Col fans FB group community members David has announced that he’s working on such a thing, so we wish him all the best! Here’s some info he shared with us:

“[A faithful recreation of the original] is already in progress, it’s been in active development for about five years now by myself, currently sitting at around 150k LOC. It is not associated with any of the existing versions of the game nor their developers. It is a faithful remake of the original in terms of rules and gameplay, all the way down to things like replicating the original prime resource distribution algorithm and the same market price fluctuation mechanics. Graphics wise, it will return to the original style, namely 2D tile-based pixel art graphics, MIDI soundtrack with re-arranged versions of the original tunes, etc. But will also have some modern features, like scriptability/modability in Lua, and supporting different monitor resolutions and aspect ratios while preserving original look. Pre-pre alpha screenshot attached (note, still with some placeholder graphics). Realistically, it will probably be another two years until it reaches the alpha stage. Get ready for a true modern Col DOS revival in the not-too-distant future!”

Shredder’s Re-Revenge – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hack of Streets of Rage 2

I always loved playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat ’em up Konami games in arcades and on consoles back in the 90s. Being a SEGA kid I got to play TMNT The Hyperstone Heist the most and always wanted a sequel but was disappointed with TMNT Tournament Fighters. So a few years ago I couldn’t believe it when I came across a cool TMNT romhack mod for the popular classic beat ’em up Streets of Rage 2 for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive called TMNT of Rage Remix by eskayelle which replaced all 4 characters with Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo & Donatello along with a few other things. However now a few years on inspired modders Savok & PPI Akiko have gone above & beyond and created an even bigger total conversion romhack for SoR2 called Shredder’s Re-Revenge that uses assets from the recent awesome TMNT Shredder’s Revenge game (ironically made by the creators of Streets of Rage 4!) on Steam & modern consoles. Because Shredder’s Revenge was deliberately retro with pixelated art its sprites and animations were able to be converted over to the Genesis palette and inserted into SoR2 resulting in this mod looking quite amazing. So naturally the 4 Turtles are back better than ever, but now all enemies have been replaced too and the huge boss fight sprites for Krang, Bebop & Rocksteady in particular are most impressive, plus not only that but they’ve even changed the story cutscenes and found a way to extend SoR2’s character roster past the original 4 up to 7 playable characters allowing them to also insert April, Casey & Splinter into the game too! Feels like the true TMNT Hyperstone Heist sequel we never got! Just amazing!
