HELP finding Master of Myrror II & Master of Arcanus final beta mods for Civilization 3

Hey guys.. if any of you are or used to be members of the various old Civ forum communities (eg CivFinatics)and you tried Drift’s Master of Magic inspired Master of Myrror II & Master of Arcanus final beta sequel mods for Civilization 3 and you think you may still have the files somewhere on some old hard drive PLEASE LET ME KNOW as these great old MoM related mods may be lost forever! 😦

(Note: Drift’s original Master of Myrror I mod has been safely backed up, it’s just the sequels missing)

My attempts to rescue the mods in Drift’s original Master of Myrror II & Master of Arcanus final betas thread is here:
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/master-of-myrror-returns.169696/page-4#post-15458640

EDIT: WE’VE GOT THEM!!!!

Drift’s Master of Myrror II sequel & Master of Arcanus final betas have been saved!!! 🙂 Massive thank you to PaGe at the German civforum.de forums! He just might have been the last person on the planet with these files lol!

Not anymore though as I’ve repacked the files in 7zip, added new documentation, and used the large file upload access the admins at CivFinatics kindly gave me last year to upload them & I’ve also stuck a copy of them over at ModDB too! Hopefully we never have to worry about them disappearing again!

Quest for Glory IV 3D Hexen in VR & Touchscreen!

OMG he’s done it again. Last time I posted about a guy playing my Star Trek Doom Mod in VR and hoped that he’d play my Quest for Glory IV 3D Hexen mod in VR too and he has!!! It’s super cool seeing him raise his hand shooting bolts out of it as if its his own lol. On top of that another fellow saw this video and decided to showcase QFG4-3D on his Doom video channel where he plays Doom mods on a touchscreen pad. Under normal circumstances my nasty monsters would slaughter anyone foolish enough to try and play the game with touch controls haha but he employs a number of clever programs and mods that add special moves like a Mortal Kombat style fast ground slide attack. It’s super fun to watch however not being QFG fans combined with trying to play fast means these guys miss a lot of the secret places sadly haha. Oh and like last time there’s a few glitches and they’ve both removed my QFG4 music sadly. I’ll post both videos below with my commentary! 🙂

VR Video

00:00 good to scene my cutscenes big and readable in this video, they were so tiny in his star trek video. ZDoom forum has a really good guide now on how to do strafe style cutscenes and npcs removing the need for my ‘virtual cinemas’ so when I come back to these projects one day I’ll overhaul all the cutscenes.

01:15 haha welcome to hell.. the ‘badders’ are a annoyingly fast with their swoops in the original QFG4 so I was thrilled when I found a super fast bees addon for hexen that I could modify into Badders. Having them swooping at your face in VR looks nasty haha.

Star Trek Doom GZDoom Mod in VR!

OH MY GOD!!!! Someone has played my Star Trek Doom Mod in VR!!!!!!!! I knew it was possible but had never seen it. It’s so cool seeing him hold up his arm to fire the phaser like its real haha. Its a bit glitchy and he removed all my music for copyright reasons sadly but its a very cool vid! Hope he tries my Quest for Glory IV 3D Hexen mod in VR one day too!
EDIT: Now he has!!! Check out my new post about him playing QFG4-3D. 🙂

Blake’s video commentary:
bahahaha at 06:05 !!!!! I set that jump scare up deliberately as everyone will be distracted by the borg and not notice the species 8472 broodlings coming out of the jefferies tube. It makes you jump in 2D/regular non-VR 3D but in VR I can see from his reaction its even worse hahahaha. 🙂

06:10 Bit of shame the ducking doesn’t work properly in VR, you can’t stick your head through the ceiling in the regular version lol.

07:50 He just killed his allied friendly crew members who don’t attack you..oh well that’s what they get for wearing red hahaha.

08:40 More crew members slaughtered lol!!!

11:30 Welcome to the bridge! Picard thanks you for not murdering more of his crew there hehe. 😛

12:29 Congrats on finding the ‘secret’ area. I was looking forward to see how this would go in VR. For anyone watching the intro text (unreadable in this video) warns you that this engineering area is a test area that’s not finished hence the recycled tiled textures.

X4 Foundations – Split Vendetta

If it wasn’t for Freelancer I would never have probably heard about the X series as being a little German studio they seem to go under the radar a bit. One of my mates who got me on to Freelancer in 2003 said “hey I found a game series just like it” and that was it, I was an addict lol. God knows how many hours I’ve put into the X series over the last 15 years.. and I’m still way behind in them due to my OCD urge to do and see everything haha! These days every man and his dog is making Freelancer like games but back in the 2000s and early 2010s there wasn’t that much out there so the X series (particularly X2 and X3) was my way of dealing with Freelancer withdrawal symptoms lol. Sure they didn’t have the great story and awesome planet landings Freelancer had but the ships and planets were gorgeous and the game universes huge. Being able to become a business mogul and build my own empire of stations and fleets of capital ships to whoops ass with was particularly fun and addictive for me. I’ve even been reading the X novels over the years to immerse myself in their universe further (although I’m gonna get stuck soon as they’re not all translated to English haha).

Well anyway those who are familiar with X games will also know that pretty much every game they release is practically a friggin disaster at launch lol with endless bugs and broken or missing features. Then rather amazingly unlike most studios they then spend years releasing patches and addons to the games until after around 2 or so years the game is friggin awesome lmao! Sure enough X4 has followed that path and they recently released the first addon for X4 Split Vandetta which appears to be quite an improvement over the messy vanilla release. No doubt they’ll be more coming too over the next few years. Presumably Egosoft must make their money back through addons as I don’t know how those guys survive the bad first releases and somehow keep going. I think the first X game came out in 1999 so its over 20 years now haha.

Has anywhere here played X4 yet? I don’t have it yet as I’ve been holding out of a physical collectors release (yeah I’m one of those old weirdos lol) which is probably not going to happen as they’ve said they can’t afford it these days sadly but nevertheless I’ve been drooling over their videos lately to build some anticipation for the inevitable digital only purchase lol. I like how you can walk around the bridge of your capital ships while station construction looks way more advanced than previous games with you putting together all the modules yourself into whatever custom setup you want. Then of course you can walk around them and hire staff and mercs etc.

Trailer for the new Split addon looks cool…

And now they’re doing a 6 part video series talking about each aspect of the game.. my god does the latest version look more complicated than ever! There’s just SO MUCH you can do, customize and tinker with.

Star Trek Borg & Star Trek Klingon Movies

I recently posted about the Starfleet Academy movie fan cut using footage from the Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy, and that got me thinking about how I’d never got around to playing or watching the other big FMV Star Trek Games from the 90s Star Trek Borg and Star Trek Klingon. So I went hunting and found some great long play videos where there’s no commentary and every story alternative is played out for you allowing you to just sit back and watch them like a tv episode or film.

These interactive FMV games were made in the mid 90s when Star Trek was firing on all cylinders giving them access to the TV shows sets and actors. No big names other than John de Lancie (our favourite superbeing Q), Robert O’Reilly (Gowron) and J. G. Hertzler (Martok) appear but you will recognise many of the actors in both games from their many guest ‘alien or crew member of the week’ appearances on TNG, DS9, Voyager and the TNG films too.

Star Trek Borg was directed James L. Conway who directed many Trek episodes and Star Trek Klingon was directed by none other than Jonathan Frakes (Riker) so both games really do feel like interactive episodes of trek due to the directions, sets and actors. Fans of Q and Gowron will definitely enjoy these as both John de Lancie and Robert O’Reilly are brilliant!

New Dune 2020 Photos

Anyone who’s been to my big Dune Games website or visited this blog or my youtube channel and see me cover Dune games and get excited over the awesome 3 hour HD fan cut of David Lynch’s 1984 cult classic Dune film then you would know I’m a big Dune fan haha!

I’m also a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 sequel so I CAN’T WAIT to see what he does with the Dune universe (especially as once again he’s got a stunning cast of actors to work with). And finally we now have a sneak peak! Vanity fair have done a big article on the film showing a number of awesome shots. Considering how cool the Atreides combat armour looks can you imagine what the Harkonnen and Emperor’s Sardaukar will look like?? Drooooools

Blade Runner Short Films

Like many I was pretty nervous about how the Blade Runner 2049 sequel film would be handled and was relived to see just how friggin good Denis Villeneuve’s film ended up being (I can’t wait to see how he handles the Dune remake!). Some criticized its slow pacing and lack of action (apparently forgetting that the original film wasn’t non-stop action either lol) but most were blown away by its cinematography/visual style and story that really adds to the universe setup in the original 1982 masterpiece by Ridley Scott.

I recently watched the awesome ‘Final Cut’ of the original Blade Runner which was amazing as Ridley & his team redid and fixed some of the films original production gaffes (eg the stunt woman’s face crashing through glass and the shed roof as the doves fly off) while remastering and cleaning up everything else (although I kind of miss the voiceovers even if that wasn’t Ridley’s vision). I then went straight into Blade Runner 2049 to see how it would hold up watching right after the original (& how it would hold up as a repeat watch being I’d already seen it before in the Cinema).. and yeah.. it didn’t disappoint, I was blown away again!

I then discovered the 3 short films set in-between the 2 major films. I was shocked as somehow I’d missed them completely and had never heard of them so presumably many others never have either. They are brilliant as they clearly share the same quality, look and direction of Blade Runner 2049 and they do indeed bridge the gap nicely. There are 2 live action films directed by Ridley Scott’s son Luke that star actors from the sequel such as Jared Leto (Niander Wallace) and Dave Bautista (Sapper Morton) and setup the story and their characters nicely as well as an animated manga style film that shows the events of the ‘great blackout’ and the purging of the Tyrell Corporations replicant databases that even has Edward James Olmos return to voice his character Detective Gaff from the original film. Thankfully these films are freely available from Warner Brothers youtube so here are all 3 below for you to enjoy too! 🙂

Star Trek Starfleet Academy The Movie

Despite being a big classic Star Trek gamer (hence why I have a massive Star Trek Gaming Website section at Blake’s Sanctum) I never did get around to playing Interplay’s Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy games other than maybe a quick try of a demo or 2. The gameplay never blew me away however what I did regret missing was all the FMV cutscenes with original cast members including William Shatner (Kirk), Walter Koenig (Chekov), and George Takei (Sulu) along with Star Trek 6’s excellent Klingons Christopher Plummer (General Chang) and David Warner (Chancellor Gorkon).

Well thankfully a youtuber has gathered all the FMV cutscenes and arranged/cut a movie out of them that has over 2 million views now! It’s quite funny looking in the comments and seeing all these confused people saying “I didn’t know about this movie, how is this possible??” failing to realise its from video games haha!

Seeing this makes me want to check about all the FMV footage from the Star Trek Borg and Star Trek Klingon games too!

Website Updates & Repairs

Hey guys,

As reported a few months ago I accidentally broke all my onedrive links on my website Blakes Sanctum.

I am pleased to say I have fixed all download links to my drive now. I also took the opportunity to update all pages to use HTML5 Audio controls since flash is being fazed out resulting in my old audio player being blocked in some browsers.

I have also updated every section to have news links to this blog so people can check out any recent news and events I’ve reported on relating to the game section they’re viewing.

Sadly I still have done the image move of all my website’s Onedrive HD pictures to Imgur yet as that’s a really really nasty job lol!

Caster of Magic (Master of Magic Mod) is now on Steam & GoG!

Well this is big news! Seravy has done a deal with Slitherine (the new MoM license holder working on a new MoM game) and Caster of Magic is now a buyable ‘officially approved’ Master of Magic addon on Steam & GoG! Naturally Seravy has promised to continue doing more amazing improvements to the mod now that he’s receiving financial reward for his hard work. Caster of Magic is already amazing enough as it changes & improves MoM so much but my god if he ever finds a way to exceed the 4 enemy player limit I’ll have his baby lol!

Announcement thread:
https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=9846

The only downside is all previous copies of CoM have been wiped! Don’t think I’ve grabbed a copy since 5.6, which must have been a while back as he’s now up to 6.0 lol!

EDIT: Sure enough here they are! They’ve gone live!

EDIT 2:
I just realised.. Master of Magic wasn’t even on steam until now.. they’re doing a joint release of both MoM & CoM on steam! Wow!
